“The Bottled Scream” a book on addiction, trauma and recovery

Click here for a link to the introduction and first chapters

This page is dedicated to the serialisation of various chapters of a book Paul Henry, over chief contributor, is writing at the present time (and has been over the last few years) on the overlapping conditions of addiction (alcoholism) and trauma (Complex-PTSD), how they interact in active addiction and recovery.

It is partly an experiential journey through recovery from alcoholism and Complex PTSD and marries ancedotal accounts of addiction and recovery with neuroscientific and neuropsychological research to more fully explain what addiction is and how it interacts with co-occurring conditions such as Complex-PTSD.

It hopes to provide a workable defintion of addiction and a clear explanation of the recovery process that will help individuals with addiction, those in recovery, and their loved ones, as well as those in some way responsible for treating and helping addicted individuals.
